Statement on the results of the Prop 50 Special Election

Dear Project LAC members and prospects,

Brandon Day is the president of the Lincoln Club of Orange County, and a friend and colleague who is helping us build Project LAC. In the wake of Proposition 50 winning at the ballot box on Tuesday, Brandon sent the below email to his members. I think it is a terrific and informative message, and I only want to add a bit of Project LAC perspective.

Prop 50's victory at the polls is not a defeat for Project LAC, it is a stark demonstration of why Project LAC is needed. The simple fact is the center/right has not built political infrastructure or advanced a sustained political program in Los Angeles County in decades. It is political malpractice to ignore over one-quarter of the state for decades, and at Project LAC we have had enough. We are rapidly gaining members, identifying 2026 political priorities and preparing to help move the needle on our home turf.

For each prospective member we have reached out to or met with in recent months, please come alongside us before year-end as a founding Project LAC member. Please reach out to Hailey Daughtry at hailey@projectlac.org to learn more about membership or to find out about our upcoming events.

Onward!

Hon. David Hadley, Founding Chairman

Dear Members,

Yesterday, Gavin Newsom and the Sacramento Democrats sent a clear message to Californians: they do not stand for democracy as they claim, but are instead agents of tyranny. It is not enough for them to enjoy a supermajority in the State Assembly and Senate—total submission is required. Despite Republicans making up 45% of the electorate in California, we hold a mere 15% of the power, subject to the whims of the left at nearly every level of government. With Proposition 50, they have made their intentions unmistakable: total domination is their only goal.

Gavin Newsom and the corrupt Democrat legislators in Sacramento witnessed the historic shift to the right in the 2024 election and decided to circumvent the will of the people. They have manipulated the game to work in their favor and expect us to lie down and take it. This deliberate, overt power grab is meant to discourage us. Proposition 50 is designed to make conservatives nervous about the upcoming 2026 election—to silence us.

At the Lincoln Club, we are not discouraged by these results—we are infuriated. We are motivated. We will not lie down as they trample the will of the people of California. Instead, we are kicking it into high gear. If they want a fight, they have found it in us. In 2026, the Lincoln Club will set its sights on Sacramento. Through the ballot box and the media, we will ensure these hypocrites are held accountable. We will get the Voter ID initiative on the ballot for the midterm elections and secure California’s elections for all future generations. Already, our Voter ID initiative has officially surpassed 650,000 signatures—it is on track to be the fastest signature-gathering effort for a ballot initiative in California history. This is all because of the Lincoln Club and the fact that we have raised over $1.2 million for this cause.

Here is the Post Prop 50 Congressional Outlook:

There are still four defensive seats in California—safe Republican seats—though questions remain about who the candidates will be:

  • CA-05

  • CA-20

  • CA-23

  • CA-40 (portions of which are in Orange County)

There are also three very strong offensive opportunities:

  • CA-22 with Valadao

  • CA-45, where we have endorsed Chuong Vo (portions of which are in Orange County)

  • CA-48

Additionally, there are two more districts that present offensive opportunities but will require strong candidates:

  • CA-47

  • CA-49, where we have endorsed a strong candidate in Jim Desmond (portions of which are in Orange County)

Finally, there are seven long-shot opportunities that, under the right conditions, we still determine to be competitive:

  • CA-01

  • CA-03

  • CA-13

  • CA-21

  • CA-25

  • CA-42 (portions of which are in Orange County)

  • CA-50

From the beginning the Club has been engaged on the legal front of this battle which is just beginning. As you may have heard multiple lawsuits have been filed today by the CAGOP and we expect action to be taken soon from Harmeet Dillon and the Federal DOJ. Members and staff are in constant contact and are working with these efforts in real time. We will keep you updated on the legal battle as it develops.

Your Lincoln Club Network team has already developed action plans in response to yesterday’s results. We are going on offense. At next week's board meeting and over the coming weeks we will be sharing with you our plans and how you can get involved.

As Americans, we do not tolerate the tyranny of one-party rule. As Californians, we have a responsibility to honor the rich history of our state and fight to make it prosperous once again. Proposition 50 was their attempt to break our spirit. We will come back even stronger.

Sincerely,

Brandon Day
President
